What You Need

• Your phone or tablet and your television on the same Wi-Fi network. Demote talks to the TV directly over that network; it is not an infrared remote and does not work away from home.
• The television powered on for the first connection, and network control left enabled in its settings.
• Local Network access granted to Demote. On first launch the app asks for it, and discovery cannot work without it.

Getting Connected

1. Turn the television on and open Demote. It scans the network for TVs. If yours does not appear (on iPhone this can happen with Roku, Samsung and LG sets), tap Connect by IP address and enter the IP address shown in the television's network settings.
2. Tap your device when it appears in the list.
3. If a code appears on the television, type it into Demote. Google TV and Apple TV show a code to type; Vizio SmartCast asks for four digits.
4. Samsung and LG sets show an allow-or-deny prompt on the screen instead of a code. Accept it with the TV's own remote the first time. LG sets paired with an earlier version ask once more, because typing from your phone needs a new permission. Roku needs no pairing at all.
5. After the first pairing, Demote reconnects on its own whenever you reopen it.

Troubleshooting

No televisions are found.

Nine times out of ten this is the network rather than the app. Confirm that:

• Demote has Local Network permission. On iPhone and iPad this lives in Settings › Demote › Local Network. If it was declined once, the app cannot ask again — it has to be switched on there by hand.
• The phone and the television are on the same network. Many routers publish separate 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz names, and a guest network is always separate.
• Any VPN is switched off. A VPN routes traffic away from the local network and hides the television.
• Your router does not have AP isolation or “client isolation” enabled, which stops devices on the same Wi-Fi from seeing one another.

Pull down on the device list to scan again.

The television is listed but pairing fails.

Watch the television screen — the code or the allow prompt is usually sitting there waiting. Codes expire, so if one has been on screen a while, cancel and start the pairing again. If a previous pairing went wrong, remove Demote from the television's list of paired devices or remote apps and pair once more from scratch.

It connects, then buttons do nothing.

Some televisions accept a connection and then drop it when they sleep or switch input. Close and reopen Demote to force a fresh connection. If the set was recently updated, its manufacturer may have changed the control protocol — see “Compatibility” below.

Wake-on-LAN does not turn the television on.

Waking a set over the network is a feature of the television, not the app, and it ships switched off on most models. Look in the television's network or power settings for an option along the lines of “wake on network,” “wake on LAN,” “mobile power on,” or “quick start,” and enable it. Sets connected only over Wi-Fi rather than Ethernet often cannot be woken at all.

Voice search does nothing.

Voice needs microphone access, and Zero touch, the hands-free mode, additionally needs speech recognition. Both are requested the first time you use them; if either was declined, switch it back on in your device's settings for Demote. Voice search is also only available on televisions that provide it — Google TV and Android TV do, most others do not. To type a search instead, use your phone's keyboard: it works on Roku, LG, Samsung, Sony, Google TV and Apple TV.

Zero touch stops listening.

Zero touch listens only while the remote screen is open, and turns itself off after 5 minutes to save battery. Leaving that screen, or locking the phone, ends the session by design. Turn it on again from its button.

The phone's volume buttons don't change the TV.

They control the TV only while the remote is open. On iPhone this is off until you turn on Volume buttons control the TV in Settings.

The sleep timer didn't turn the TV off.

On iPhone and iPad, keep Demote open while the sleep timer counts down. The 30-minute timer is free; other lengths, and turning off when the show ends, come with the Lifetime Unlock.

The game controller does nothing in my game.

On a TV, the controller sends the same keys as the remote, so it works in games and apps that take remote keys; many TV games want a real gamepad instead. For a PC emulator, pick Emulator (Wi-Fi) as the output, keep the phone and the computer on the same Wi-Fi, and add the address Demote shows to the emulator's DSU settings (in Dolphin: Controllers › Alternate Input Sources). On Android, Bluetooth controller pairs the phone with a TV or PC like a gamepad; Android asks for the Nearby devices permission the first time.

Home Assistant won't connect.

Turn it on in Settings › Button Packs and sign in to your own Home Assistant server. Demote talks to that server directly, so your phone has to be able to reach its address: an address that only works at home works only at home. Servers with a self-signed certificate are supported.

I paid but my unlock is missing.

Open Settings and tap Restore purchase; it is also on the Lifetime Unlock screen. If you bought Demote on the App Store when it was a paid download, the Lifetime Unlock is already yours, and Restore purchase brings it back if it isn't showing. The Lifetime Unlock is tied to the store account that bought it, so make sure the device is signed in to that same account. If it still does not appear, write in with the store receipt and it can be sorted out.

Compatibility

Manufacturers implement their control protocols differently from model to model and change them in firmware updates without warning. Some sets expose only part of their functionality, and some offer no network control at all and cannot be supported. Demote reports what it cannot do rather than failing silently.

If your television is genuinely unsupported, ask for a refund through the store you bought from — that is their process, not ours, and we would rather you had your money back than a remote that does not reach your set.

Frequently Asked

Does Demote need an internet connection?

No. Commands travel from your phone straight to your television across your own Wi-Fi. The app works with the internet down, and it needs no account and no sign-in. Browsing button packs (they come from GitHub), buying or restoring the Lifetime Unlock, and any button you point at an address on the internet, such as IFTTT, do need it.

Can I use it away from home?

No. Demote is a local-network remote by design. It cannot reach your television over cellular data or from another building.

Will it control my older television?

Only if that television offers network control. Demote sends commands over Wi-Fi and cannot replace an infrared remote for a set that has no network control at all.

What does the app collect about me?

Nothing that identifies you. There are no accounts, no tracking, and no ads. Our Privacy Policy sets out the detail.

Is the purchase a subscription?

No. Demote is free to download, and volume, power, the keyboard and the rest of the remote are free. The optional Lifetime Unlock is a single one-time purchase, with no recurring fee.

Cómo Conectarlo

1. Encienda el televisor y abra Demote. La aplicación explora la red en busca de televisores. Si el suyo no aparece (en iPhone puede pasar con televisores Roku, Samsung y LG), toque Conectar por dirección IP y escriba la dirección IP que muestran los ajustes de red del televisor.
2. Toque su dispositivo cuando aparezca en la lista.
3. Si aparece un código en el televisor, escríbalo en Demote. Google TV y Apple TV muestran un código para escribir; Vizio SmartCast pide uno de cuatro dígitos.
4. Los televisores Samsung y LG muestran un aviso de permitir o denegar en pantalla en lugar de un código. Acepte con el mando del televisor la primera vez. Los LG emparejados con una versión anterior lo piden una vez más, porque escribir desde el teléfono necesita un permiso nuevo. Roku no necesita emparejamiento.

Resolución de Problemas

No se encuentra ningún televisor.

Nueve de cada diez veces se trata de la red y no de la aplicación. Compruebe que:

• Demote tiene permiso de red local. En iPhone y iPad se encuentra en Ajustes › Demote › Red local. Si se denegó una vez, la aplicación no puede volver a preguntar: hay que activarlo ahí a mano.
• El teléfono y el televisor están en la misma red. Muchos routers publican nombres distintos para 2,4 GHz y 5 GHz, y una red de invitados siempre está separada.
• Cualquier VPN está desactivada. Una VPN desvía el tráfico fuera de la red local y oculta el televisor.
• Su router no tiene activado el aislamiento de clientes (AP isolation), que impide que los dispositivos de la misma Wi-Fi se vean entre sí.

Deslice hacia abajo en la lista de dispositivos para volver a explorar.

El televisor aparece pero el emparejamiento falla.

Mire la pantalla del televisor: el código o el aviso de permiso suele estar ahí esperando. Los códigos caducan, así que si uno lleva rato en pantalla, cancele y empiece de nuevo. Si un emparejamiento anterior salió mal, elimine Demote de la lista de dispositivos o aplicaciones de mando del televisor y emparejen otra vez desde cero.

Se conecta, pero los botones no hacen nada.

Algunos televisores aceptan la conexión y luego la cierran al entrar en reposo o cambiar de entrada. Cierre y vuelva a abrir Demote para forzar una conexión nueva. Si el televisor se actualizó hace poco, es posible que el fabricante haya cambiado el protocolo de control: vea «Compatibilidad» más abajo.

Wake-on-LAN no enciende el televisor.

Encender un televisor por la red es una función del televisor, no de la aplicación, y viene desactivada en la mayoría de los modelos. Busque en los ajustes de red o de energía del televisor una opción del estilo «encendido por red», «wake on LAN», «encendido móvil» o «inicio rápido», y actívela. Los televisores conectados solo por Wi-Fi y no por Ethernet a menudo no pueden encenderse así.

La búsqueda por voz no hace nada.

La voz necesita acceso al micrófono, y Manos libres necesita además reconocimiento de voz. Ambos se solicitan la primera vez que los usa; si denegó alguno, actívelo de nuevo en los ajustes de su dispositivo para Demote. La búsqueda por voz también está disponible únicamente en televisores que la ofrecen: Google TV y Android TV sí, la mayoría de los demás no. Para escribir una búsqueda, use el teclado del teléfono: funciona en Roku, LG, Samsung, Sony, Google TV y Apple TV.

Manos libres deja de escuchar.

Manos libres escucha solo mientras la pantalla del mando está abierta, y se desactiva sola después de 5 minutos para ahorrar batería. Salir de esa pantalla, o bloquear el teléfono, termina la sesión de forma intencionada. Vuelva a activarla con su botón.

Los botones de volumen del teléfono no cambian el volumen de la TV.

Solo controlan la TV mientras el mando está abierto. En iPhone están desactivados hasta que active Los botones de volumen controlan la TV en Ajustes.

El temporizador de apagado no apagó la TV.

En iPhone y iPad, mantenga Demote abierta mientras el temporizador cuenta. El temporizador de 30 minutos es gratis; otras duraciones, y apagar al terminar el programa, vienen con el Lifetime Unlock.

El control de juegos no hace nada en mi juego.

En una TV, el control envía las mismas teclas que el control remoto, así que funciona en los juegos y apps que aceptan esas teclas; muchos juegos de TV piden un control de juegos de verdad. Para un emulador de PC, elija Emulador (Wi-Fi) como salida, mantenga el teléfono y la computadora en la misma Wi-Fi, y agregue la dirección que muestra Demote en los ajustes DSU del emulador (en Dolphin: Controllers › Alternate Input Sources). En Android, Control Bluetooth vincula el teléfono con una TV o PC como un control de juegos; Android pide el permiso de Dispositivos cercanos la primera vez.

Home Assistant no se conecta.

Actívelo en Ajustes › Paquetes de botones e inicie sesión en su propio servidor de Home Assistant. Demote habla directamente con ese servidor, así que su teléfono tiene que poder llegar a su dirección: una dirección que solo funciona en casa solo funciona en casa. Se admiten servidores con certificado autofirmado.

Pagué pero no tengo el desbloqueo.

Abra Ajustes y toque Restaurar compra; también está en la pantalla del Lifetime Unlock. Si compró Demote en el App Store cuando era de pago, el Lifetime Unlock ya es suyo, y Restaurar compra lo recupera si no aparece. El Lifetime Unlock está vinculado a la cuenta de la tienda que lo compró, así que asegúrese de que el dispositivo tiene esa misma sesión iniciada. Si aún no aparece, escríbanos con el recibo de la tienda y lo resolvemos.

Compatibilidad

Los fabricantes implementan sus protocolos de control de forma distinta entre modelos y los cambian en actualizaciones de firmware sin previo aviso. Algunos televisores exponen solo parte de su funcionalidad y otros no ofrecen control por red en absoluto y no pueden ser compatibles. Demote informa de lo que no puede hacer en lugar de fallar en silencio.

Si su televisor realmente no es compatible, solicite un reembolso en la tienda donde compró: ese proceso es suyo, no nuestro, y preferimos que recupere su dinero antes que dejarle un mando que no alcanza su televisor.

¿Demote necesita conexión a internet?

No. Los comandos van de su teléfono directamente a su televisor por su propia Wi-Fi. La aplicación funciona con internet caído, y no necesita cuenta ni inicio de sesión. Sí lo necesitan explorar los paquetes de botones (vienen de GitHub), comprar o restaurar el Lifetime Unlock, y cualquier botón que apunte a una dirección en internet, como IFTTT.

¿Puedo usarla fuera de casa?

¿La compra es una suscripción?

No. Demote es gratis, y el volumen, el encendido, el teclado y el resto del mando también lo son. El Lifetime Unlock opcional es una única compra puntual, sin cuotas recurrentes.

Si Sigue Sin Funcionar

Escríbanos. Demote está hecho por una sola persona y el correo electrónico es el único canal: no hay sistema de tickets ni ninguna cuenta que necesite para preguntar.
