A button pack adds ready-made buttons to Demote for things it doesn't control on its own: the receiver under your TV, the soundbar, the lights behind it, the home server in the closet.
Turn a pack on, tell it once where the device is, and its buttons show up in Demote's Button Builder as their own category. Put them on your remote or the game controller, or chain them into a macro: one tap to dim the lights, switch the receiver to the movie input and start the show.
Published packs
These 13 packs are in the directory now:
- WLED: on, off, brightness and presets for WLED lights, like the strip behind your TV.
- Hyperion and HyperHDR: on, off, color, effects and back to video for TV backlights.
- Kodi: navigation, playback and volume over Kodi's web server.
- Denon & Marantz: power, volume, inputs and sound modes for networked receivers.
- Yamaha MusicCast: power, volume, inputs, sound programs and Clear Voice for receivers and soundbars.
- Lyrion Music Server: play, skip, volume, power and presets for a Squeezebox or squeezelite player.
- Shelly: switch and dim Shelly Gen2 and newer relays and dimmers.
- Tasmota: switch relays and dim lights on Tasmota plugs, switches and bulbs.
- ESPHome: switches, lights, fans and buttons on ESPHome devices with the web server component.
- Hubitat Maker API: turn Hubitat devices on and off and set dimmer levels.
- Falcon Player: start, stop and skip light show playlists and set the volume.
- Bitfocus Companion: press any Companion button by its page, row and column.
- IFTTT webhooks: trigger IFTTT applets with the Webhooks service (needs IFTTT Pro).
Each pack works on the devices and firmware its file describes. Packs are checked automatically and reviewed before they're listed, but not every model has been tried; if a button doesn't work on yours, please report it.
Home Assistant is built into Demote and turns on the same way, from Settings › Button Packs. Waiting for hardware tests: Sonos, IR devices through Home Assistant, and the Movie night, Game night, Bedtime and Projector night scene packs.
Using a pack
- Open Settings › Button Packs and tap Browse packs.
- Find a pack and turn it on. Demote shows what it will contact first.
- Fill in its settings, such as the device's address, and test a button.
- In the Button Builder, the pack is now its own category.
Built to be safe
- Data, not code. A pack is a short description of buttons. It can't run anything, and Demote never reads the replies.
- Local by default. Packs talk to devices on your home network. Before you turn one on, Demote shows exactly where its requests go.
- Your details stay on your phone. Addresses, passwords and keys are typed in by you, kept in your phone's secure storage, and never shared or copied with your buttons.
- Only when you press. A pack sends nothing in the background. It acts when you press one of its buttons, and at no other time.
- Reviewed. Anyone can submit a pack, and none reaches the app until it has been reviewed.
Pricing
Packs are free to turn on. Their buttons are custom buttons, so they follow Demote's usual rule: your first custom button is free, and the optional Lifetime Unlock adds 24 more on three extra panes.
Make one, test one, or ask for one
Packs live in a public repository on GitHub. If you own a Sonos or an IR blaster on Home Assistant, testing a draft is the most useful thing you can do. If your device has a local web API, you can write a pack for it.

- Datos, no código.
